Before we begin

A cello
to call your own.

You’ll need to hire or buy a suitable cello before booking lessons. A good-quality, well-set-up instrument in the right size helps you play comfortably and produce a clear sound.

More about the cello

Four strings, tuned C, G, D and A from lowest to highest, give the cello its wide, expressive range.

Strings & fingerboard
Pressing a string against the fingerboard changes its vibrating length and pitch.
Bow & bridge
The bow sets the strings vibrating; the bridge carries those vibrations into the cello’s body.
Endpin
The adjustable support rests on the floor to help position the instrument comfortably.
